BMW 635 overview and introduction
The 1983 635CSi sits at the heart of BMW’s first-generation 6-Series “shark-nose” coupé line-up. A long-bonnet, pillar-less GT tailored for the autobahn, it mixes restrained Paul Bracq styling with purposeful details like the deep chin spoiler, slim chrome bumpers and trademark Hofmeister kink. Under the skin, BMW’s freshly adopted Bosch Motronic management and a rear-biased 52/48 weight distribution gave it a reputation for effortless high-speed touring without sacrificing the poised handling that defined Munich’s sportier saloons. At roughly 1,430–1,450 kg kerb weight, the big 6er was lighter than many contemporaries yet offered a plush, four-seat cabin trimmed in leather, complete with power amenities and BMW’s pioneering on-board computer (“Check Control”) for driver information and anti-theft immobilisation.
